Electrify Your Home

Replace everything in your home that burns fossil fuels with an electric alternative.

Pump heat with electricity, not gas

There are electric heat pumps for water and home heating, and even portable heat pumps for rental units

Once your building is fully sealed and insulated, the correct size of heat pump can be determined. Heat pumps can operate either with your duct system or without (these are called “ductless mini-split” systems.)

Heat pump dryer

A ventless heat pump dryer works as a closed loop system by heating the air, using it to remove moisture from the clothes, and then reusing it once the moisture is removed. Rather than releasing warm, humid air through a dryer vent to the exterior of the home as a conventional dryer does, a heat pump dryer sends it through an evaporator to remove the moisture without losing too much heat. Making use of a refrigerant as part of this process means less electricity is used to generate heat.

Heat pump water heater

A heat pump water heater is a hybrid system consisting of an electric water heater with a heat pump to heat the water more efficiently.

Cook with Induction.
It’s Hot.

Induction stoves outperform gas ones, are even available as portable hotplates, and improve indoor air quality.

For the safer, faster, very controlled heat used by Top Chefs, use an induction cooktop. Inexpensive induction hotplates are a good way to try out cooking with induction before installing an induction cooktop. They conveniently plug into any standard household outlet.

With induction cooktops, you can maintain high-temperature settings anywhere in the world. Unlike gas that gets affected at high altitudes and low temperatures of the environment, induction gives you precise temperature settings with high efficiency.

Gas burners, if they ever burn clean in a professional setting, would probably only be that way for the first month. Those things are, by and large, so dirty and get so clogged and become so inefficient over time. Very few kitchens operate at 100 percent efficiency and 100 percent cleanliness, simply because manpower isn’t there to maintain restaurants in that way.

— TikTok food star Jon Kung

Induction is a powerful hob and 40% faster than gas. The time it takes to heat up the cooking vessel is about five seconds. It is one of the main reasons why a lot of restaurants have taken on induction as it’s their job to be quick.
